A Better Day

Day 2 was definitely better than day 1.  It's still a big adjustment, but I'm feeling a little more comfortable.  I also have a MUCH clearer idea of what I'm going to be doing and how I'll get there.  Today I met with a "higher up" manager who is going to be helping with my training.  She was really nice but also direct (which I SO appreciated), and we went through a few tasks, which made me feel productive.  She also explained a little about what the next few weeks would look like.  She will definitely be a great resource for me.  Everyone kept asking how the first day went, and I felt blessed to have a friendly group of people to work with, even if it's not like my old company.  I have to admit, I really miss the people and interactions with some of my former coworkers, but I also think that you're given what you need.  God knew I needed friends when we were in Memphis here.  Maybe what I need in KC is different, since we have established relationships here.  Anyway, I'm feeling relieved after day 2.  I appreciate all of your kindness and support through all the unemployment and as I started yesterday.  

Oh, and I wanted to include a quick phone picture of my office! :)  This is one exciting thing about the job. I feel like kind of a big shot with my own office (with yes, 2 windows) instead of a cubicle.  If only all my office decor wasn't in storage... I kid you not, I have not a single hubby/wife picture to put up in my office.  Good thing there's a mess of paperwork to sort on every possible work space- lol!

Since I didn't get to recap the weekend yesterday, here's a quick summary (since inquiring minds want to know, right?).  M and I went to Sumo on Saturday for a celebratory dinner (celebrating my new job and our change in life).  Sumo is a new Japanese place here that does the grill in front of you thing but also has sushi.  I have never eaten sushi (please don't shun me), and we decided to stick with the grill part.  I got chicken and M got the lobster and steak (livin' it up, right?).  Sadly, neither one of ours was super great and the chef didn't even make the onion volcano.  Everything was just okay, so I don't think we'll be going back there any time soon.  Sunday, M and I went Open Housing, but only actually ended up going in one place (and didn't like it).  We did, however, do a drive by of another house that just came on the market.  We LOVE the pictures online and it seems to be a good location, too.  It is in serious need of some landscaping and the driveway is a little cracked, but otherwise everything is new/redone.  I'm hoping it's still around when we're ready to buy (need a little mula influx first).  I have a feeling we'll be open housing pretty often until then.  Other than that, we just rested and prepared for life with two of us working again.

Finally (I know, I thought this post would be short, too), I wanted to congratulate a few of my family members on various exciting things:

*My cousin, Laura, and her new husband, Jeremy got married this weekend in Minnesota.  We weren't able to be there, but I'm so happy for the new Mr. and Mrs.  Best wishes!

*My sisters are starting their senior years this week and last.  Olivia is a senior in college and Molly is a senior in high school (starts tomorrow).  I can't believe how old they're getting and how proud they make me! I thought they were supposed to look up to me as the oldest.. looks like it goes both ways :)

*Last, but not least, Congrats to my cousin, Brittany, and her Husband Matt (and adorable son, Oliver)! Matt just got a new job and they're moving back to Britt's hometown where her parents and brother and his family live.  I know they've wanted this for a while, and I'm so excited for them.

Well, this girl needs some sleep.  This schedule is wearing me out! Happy Tuesday (night)!
